Kwangwoon University, selected as the “Innovative Sharing College for New Digital Technology Talent Training” by the Ministry of Education
Kwangwoon University (President Yoo Ji-sang) was selected in the
"Intelligent robot" field in the government's "New Digital
Technology Talent Training Innovation Sharing University" project to
foster next-generation core talents in the new technology field. As a result,
Kwangwoon University will take the lead in achieving the "Korean New
Deal," which will receive government support over the next six years and
train 100,000 key national talents.
The "New Digital Technology Talent Training Innovation
Sharing University Project" is a new task of the "Korean New
Deal" conducted by the government to train 100,000 key national talent.
The goal is to form a consortium to jointly utilize educational resources in
new technology fields scattered across universities, and to establish a
cooperative system to foster key talents by participating not only in
universities but also in industries, research institutes, academic societies.
As a result of the selection evaluation of 41 federations
(consortiums) that met the requirements, one from each field and a total of
eight federations were selected for support. Eight areas are Artificial
Intelligence, Big Data, Next Generation Semiconductor, Future Automotive, Bio
health, Real Media, Intelligent Robot and
New Energy Industry. The coalition of seven universities will receive a total
of 81.6 billion won, 10.2 billion won each, to begin joint development and
operation of the curriculum this year.
Kwangwoon University, along with Sangmyung University, Korea
Institute of Industrial Technology and Hanyang University, was selected as a
university that participated in fostering talent in the "Intelligent
robot" field by forming an ERICA consortium.
The participating professors are Jeong Moon-ho, Choi Yong-hoon
and eight others from the Department of Robotics, Park Jae-sung and five others
from the Department of Information and Convergence, and Song Seung-ho from the
Department of Electrical Engineering.
Professor Jung Moon-ho of the Department of Robotics explained the meaning of the project, "With this project selection, we can introduce an original shared education model to nurture intelligent robot talent suitable for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
