Kim Hyung-geun, Institute of Information Technology (Physical Education Major) was selected for the national team by placing third among 11 breakmen in the 2020-2021 bobsleigh national team selection held at the Pyeongchang Olympic Sliding Center on August 21, 2020.

What is significant is that he was selected as a member of the national team three years after challenging bobsleigh as a general student, not an elite player. Bobsleigh, which has a thin player base, is an event that can be applied for the national team selection without having to play as a player.

Kim Hyung-geun placed 5th in the 2019 selection and was selected as a pilot standing army, and was able to improve his skills under systematic guidance from seniors and coaches. He finished third overall in the national selection for 11 breakmen this year and was able to wear the ‘Taegeuk’ mark on his chest.

Since then, he has won the silver medal in the men's four-man bobsled at the 2020 National Winter Sports Festival, third place in the men's bobsleigh at the 2021 National Bobsleigh Skeleton Start Championships, and the men's two-man first-place, and will compete as the national bobsleigh team at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Kim Hyung-geun, who has reached a turning point as a bobsleigh player, said, “I will show the skills that have made me rise to the national team.” He said, “As I have been working hard for three years as a student to become a national player, you can do it too.”

“I wasn’t a player either, but I was able to become a national team member through hard work. If you challenge anything and work hard, your turning point will come one day,” he said encouragingly to the students.
