- Awarded at the 2023 Spring Academic
Conference of the Korean Industrial Chemistry Society for Excellent Paper
Presentation -
- Improving the Production Rate of
Hydrogen Peroxide Using Solar-Induced Photothermal Effect -
The
graduate student, Shin Hyukjin, from our university (supervised by Professor
Kim Young-hoon from the Department of Chemical Engineering) received the
Outstanding Paper Presentation Award at the "2023 Korean Industrial
Chemistry Society Spring Conference," which took place from May 10th to
12th.

During
this academic conference, Shin Hyukjin presented on "Improvement of H2O2
Production Rate using Visible Light Photocatalyst (ZnIn2S4) Loaded with
Thermally Responsive Particles" and was selected for excellent research
results in the field of environmental energy. Hydrogen peroxide is widely used
as an oxidizing agent in industrial disinfectants, bleaching agents, water
treatment, and medical applications. Recognizing the excellence in defining a
new methodology to enhance the activity of conventional visible light
photocatalysts by inducing thermal effects to improve production rate, Shin
Hyukjin was awarded this prize.
Shin
Hyukjin stated, "It was a great opportunity to study the principles and
applications of photocatalysts utilizing solar energy, and I am proud to
introduce it to many people." He further expressed, "I hope that
research on producing high-value substances such as hydrogen and hydrogen
peroxide will continue steadily in the field of photocatalysts, and I would
like to pursue research in this field as my career."
To
date, Shin Hyukjin has published three first-author papers on research related
to thermally responsive particles for thermal sensing patch (Colloids Surf. A),
potential exposure of nanoparticles in the laboratory (Clean Technol.), and
accelerated weathering of tire particles (Environ. Pollut.).
Meanwhile, the Korean Industrial Chemistry Society, which organized this academic conference, is celebrating its 33rd anniversary. It publishes the representative English journal JIEC (IF 6.760, Q1) and has established itself as a leading society in the field of chemical engineering, industrial chemistry, and advanced chemistry. The society's membership consists of professionals and experts from the chemical engineering field and related industries.
