2024 Kwangwoon University Freshman Welcome Music Concert
On March
26, 2024, at 6 p.m., the '2024 Kwangwoon University Freshman Welcome Music Concert',
organized by the College of Electronics and Information Engineering (Dean Hyeon-cheol
Shin), was held at the small theater of
Donghae Art Center. This event was held to welcome the incoming freshmen of
2024 and was successfully carried out with enthusiastic responses from about 150
audience members. The Freshman Welcome Music Concert, which began in March 2018
and continued for seven years, is becoming a traditional event at our
university held in March.
The
university's music club "Noel" performed renditions of 'As Much as I
Waited, More (The Black Skirts)', 'As Long as You Are There (Nerd Connection)',
and 'Graduation (10cm)', followed by the club "Trick" presenting
magic tricks using cards accompanied by background music, receiving thunderous
applause from the audience. Then, the club "C-SPOT" performed
original songs such as 'Feel High', 'Air Raid Alert', and 'Peace Out', and
finally, the club "Pegasus" dynamically performed band renditions of
'Hysteria' and 'Quasimodo', eliciting a fervent response from the audience.
In the
second part of the event, amateur/professional vocalists took the stage,
starting with tenor Han Deokman's rendition of 'Funiculi-Funicula (Cable Car)',
followed by a heartfelt performance by eight vocalists, including Professor Jong-cheol Lee from the Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering,
delivering love to the incoming freshmen through songs like 'Dein ist mein
ganzes Herz (You are my whole heart)'. The concert ended with a performance of
'Volare (Fly Away)' by baritone Sunghoo Lee.
Professor Jong-cheol Lee from the Department of Electronic Convergence Engineering
who planned the event, expressed his sincere welcome and blessings to the
freshmen who entered Kwangwoon University in 2024. He said, “Despite the
challenging conditions, I sincerely welcome and bless the new students who
entered Kwangwoon University in 2024, and hope that they will grow their dreams
and develop their skills during their time at Kwangwoon University. I prepared
the concert with the hope that they will
spend their golden years of their lives at Kwangwoon University, creating many
good memories of life here." “Although the budget and environment were
limited in various ways, we were able to complete the event well with the best
of our abilities under the given conditions, led by the emergency response team
students from the College of Electronics and Information Engineering, the
cooperation of various clubs , and the active support from the administrative
departments (such as the Public Relations Team of the Office of External and
International Affairs , the Office of Admissions), the administrative office of
the College of Electronics and Information Engineering, and Mr. Haiyong Lee,
manager of Donghae Cultural Arts Center.I hope that it will develop into the
school-level event rather than an event organized by me so that more students can
participate in it, and the program will be more fulfilling, and that it will
become a meaningful early semester event even though Kwangwoon University does not have a music
department.
Meanwhile, the event, lasting about two hours, was sponsored by Wavepia Inc. (Represented by Dr. Sanghoon Lee, Kwangwoon University, Department of Electronic Engineering, Alumnus).
