Analysis of the Impact of Earthquake Loads on Residential RC Buildings During
Construction Due to Changes in Building Size and Recurrence Period -
Professor Jae-yo
Kim (Department of Architectural Engineering) received the '34th Science and
Technology Excellent Paper Award' at the '2nd World Conference of Korean
Scientists and Engineers' held at the Science and Technology Hall in
Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on July 11th. The event was hosted by the Ministry of
Science and ICT and organized by the Korean Federation of Science and
Technology Societies.
This award
is a prestigious academic award in the Korean science and technology community.
It is given after a rigorous review by the Korean Federation of Science and
Technology Societies, based on recommendations of excellent papers published in
domestic academic journals the previous year.
Professor
Kim was recommended by the Korean Society of Computational Structural
Engineering for his co-authored paper with graduate student Sung-hyun Choi
(graduate), titled "Analysis of the Impact of Earthquake Loads on
Residential RC Buildings During Construction Due to Changes in Building Size
and Recurrence Period." This paper is recognized for its unique research
on the impact of earthquakes on buildings under construction, providing
foundational data for analyzing the effects of earthquakes on buildings of
varying sizes and recurrence periods.
Even if
seismic design is applied, incomplete buildings under construction may be
vulnerable to earthquakes due to unfinished earthquake-resistant systems.
Therefore, based on the analysis results, it is expected that this research
will contribute to the establishment of relevant structural standards and
enhance safety during the construction of buildings.
