Commendation from the Administrator of the Rural Development Administration
- In recognition of his contributions to the
development and promotion of the green bio-industry through advancements in
agricultural and food biotechnology -
Professor Cheol-hwan Park from the Department of
Chemical Engineering (pictured on the right) was awarded the "Commendation
from the Administrator of the Rural Development Administration" in the
field of Food Biotechnology at the 2024 Korean Society for Biotechnology and
Bioengineering Fall Symposium and International Symposium, held at the Jeju
International Convention Center on September 26, 2024.
The Rural Development Administration's commendation is
awarded annually at the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering
Symposium to one individual in the fields of food biotechnology, agricultural
microbial biotechnology, and medical biotechnology. The recipients are selected
by the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering and the Rural
Development Administration to encourage academic activity, promote outstanding
technology development, and foster industrialization in the green bio field.
Professor Park has been actively contributing to
academic advancements in green biotechnology sector, particularly through
interdisciplinary collaborations among industry, academia, and research
institutes. His exceptional research achievements in functional foods and
materials, as well as natural products using biotechnology, earned him the
commendation in the field of food biotechnology.
His major achievements include sustained research in
the field of food biotechnology, with recent expansions into functional foods,
materials, and biosensors. He has also provided strategic roadmaps in these
areas and has been recognized for his roles as an editorial board member for
international and domestic academic journals, as well as his service as the
chair of the International Cooperation Committee in professional academic
societies. In addition, Professor Park has an impressive research record, with
255 SCI(E) papers, 57 domestic academic papers, 49 registered patents, and 395
academic presentations (with a total of 10,808 citations, an h-index of 49, and
an i10-index of 202).
The Korean Society for Biotechnology and
Bioengineering is a leading society in the field with approximately 10,000
members from BT-related industries and academia, and Professor Park currently
serves as the chair of its International Cooperation Committee.
