Sang-woo Shin, an alumnus of
Kwangwoon University (Electrical Engineering, Entering Class of '95), has been
appointed as the head coach of South Korean Women's National Soccer Team.
Head Coach Sang-woo Shin has shown remarkable achievements since his time at Kwangwoon AI High School (formerly Kwangwoon Electronics Technical High School), where he was selected for the U-20 National Soccer Team. In the youth national team, he mainly played as a side attacker, and during his time as a player at Kwangwoon University, he demonstrated versatility by covering positions from the forward line to the defense.
During his playing career, Coach Shin played for teams such as Daejeon Citizen (now Daejeon Hana Citizen) and Seongnam Ilhwa (now Seongnam FC) and began his coaching career after retirement. After gaining experience as a coach for Boeun Sangmu (now Mungyeong), head coach for Icheon Daekyo, and head coach for Changnyeong WFC, he took on a coaching role with Gimcheon in 2022 before being appointed to lead the Women's National Soccer Team.
Under Coach Shin's leadership, the Women's National Soccer Team will make its debut in a friendly match against Asia's top team, Japan, on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The contract period extends until the 2028 Los Angeles (LA) Olympics.
