Successful Booth Operation at the 2024 Nowon Youth Future Science Festival

- Event engages elementary, middle, and high school students to help them understand the science and technology of the future -

The “Wish” volunteer group, a software education volunteer team composed of students from Kwangwoon University's College of AI Convergence (Dean: Byungjoon Park), participated in the 2024 Nowon Youth Future Science Festival, hosted by the Nowon Career Center for Youth and Future (AND Center). The event took place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Hyeseong Girls’ High School. The festival was designed to promote an understanding of future science and technology, providing elementary, middle, and high school students with opportunities to engage with and create through various booths.

The event was divided into three main categories, with the future technology section featuring experiences in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and virtual reality (VR). In the science category, basic science experiments and interdisciplinary science activities were conducted, while the other experience section included media production and maker activities. Students were free to visit the booths, participate in hands-on activities, and explore exhibitions to learn about the principles of cutting-edge technologies.

The “Wish” volunteer group operated a booth in the Future Technology section, focusing on an activity that involved distinguishing between AI-generated images and real images. Using a web application developed by the volunteers, participants engaged in real-time activities in a local environment. The volunteers explained the principles of AI technologies, such as web-based and generative AI, helping participants fully engage with and enjoy the activity.

Participating students said, "I was surprised at how difficult it was to distinguish between AI-generated images and real ones," adding that the experience increased their interest in AI technology. Another participant shared, "Through activities like this, I realized how AI can be utilized in such a wide variety of ways."

The members of the “Wish” volunteer group who participated in operating the booth stated, "This booth operation was a meaningful experience for us as well," adding, "We aimed to provide an opportunity for young people to become familiar with advanced technologies like AI and learn how they can be applied in everyday life."

Meanwhile, the "Wish" volunteer program at Kwangwoon University's College of AI Convergence is supported by Kakaopay's "IT Education Support to Close the Digital Education Gap" development fund.
