Professor Park Ho-Jong (Department of Electronic Engineering) Wins the 2024 Patent Technology Award 'Ji Seok-Young Medal'

Professor Park Ho-Jong (Department of Electronic Engineering) from our university has been awarded the "2024 Patent Technology Award - Ji Seok-Young Medal" by the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Professor Park was recognized for his contributions to advancing speech and audio coding technology through the development of an "encoding and decoding device for transformation between MDCT-based coders and heterogeneous coders."

This technology is an innovative solution that minimizes signal distortion during the transformation process between MDCT (Modified Discrete Cosine Transform)-based coders and heterogeneous coders like CELP. By reducing additional data usage and maximizing coding efficiency, this technology has significantly improved signal quality and data transmission efficiency in the process of integrated encoding for speech and audio.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office highlighted the exceptional technological innovation and broad commercial potential of this invention, recognizing it as a highly valuable example for the speech and audio industries as a whole.

Professor Park Ho-Jong stated, "The awarded technology focuses on preserving the quality of speech and audio data by addressing issues that arise during the transformation process between different coding methods." He added, "I hope to contribute to various digital content and communication industries in the future and play a role in the dissemination of high-efficiency coding technologies."

Meanwhile, the Patent Technology Award, presented by the Korean Intellectual Property Office, is jointly organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the JoongAng Ilbo. It is awarded annually to recognize and honor outstanding inventions and technologies. Among these, the Ji Seok-Young Medal is a prestigious award given to inventions that demonstrate both public benefit and technological innovation. Through this recognition, Professor Park Ho-Jong's technology has been acknowledged for its significant achievements in maximizing the efficiency of audio coding and preserving data quality, garnering attention for its high potential for widespread application across related industries.
