A research team from the Next-Generation Integrated Circuits and Systems Design Lab (NICS Design Lab), led by Professor Chae Joo-Hyung (Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering) at our university, has won the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the 2024 Fall Conference of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. The team includes undergraduate students Jeon Minwoo (senior) and Lee Jongmin (senior).

The research team developed an SRAM CIM (Compute-In-Memory) that integrates a computational unit into SRAM using the capacitor coupling effect to enhance the performance of deep neural networks on edge devices. They demonstrated and presented that this approach achieves high energy efficiency and computational performance within a compact chip area. This research is expected to be utilized in future applications such as on-device AI.

The 2024 Fall Conference of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers was held from November 22 (Friday) to November 23 (Saturday) at the Convention Tower of High1 Resort in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province. The conference featured paper presentations in the following areas: communications, semiconductors, computers, artificial intelligence signal processing, systems and control, industrial electronics, and new emerging areas.
