- Designed as a Project to Develop Creative and
Practical Solutions -
The "Collaborative Hackathon KWthon 2024"
(Kwangwoon Hackathon, hereafter referred to as KWthon 2024), organized by our
university's IT clubs, was successfully held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in
Room B105 of the Chambit Hall. This hackathon was jointly organized by
Kwangwoon University's IT clubs―UMC (University Make Us Challenge), LikeLion, BlackCat,
and COM’s (Computer Science Research Club)―with the aim of fostering creativity
and collaboration among students.
KWthon 2024 was open to both enrolled and on-leave
students, offering a flexible format that allowed participation either
individually or in teams, which encouraged broad student involvement. In
particular, the event provided an opportunity for students, including those
with no prior hackathon experience and participants from diverse backgrounds,
to collaborate on projects and bring new ideas to life. The event began with an
opening ceremony at 8 a.m. and concluded with two rounds of project sprints,
followed by team presentations and evaluations. Participants had the
opportunity to share their development process and outcomes through presentations
and receive feedback from the judges.
The team that won the grand prize developed a service
called "BROOM," creating a comprehensive reservist service platform
for Kwangwoon University, which was highly praised for its usefulness and
practicality. The KWiki team, which won the Excellence Award, and the teams
behind the HoliJoli Market and KWCLUB services, which received the Outstanding
Award, also impressed judges and participants with their innovative ideas.
One participant shared, "I learned a lot through
the process of collaborating with diverse team members to create the final
product," adding, "It was my first hackathon, but it became an
unforgettable experience." A representative from the organizing club
stated, "We planned this hackathon with the hope that Kwangwoon University
students could participate without hesitation and gain valuable
experience." They added, "As it was our first time hosting such an
event, the preparation process had many challenges, but seeing participants
passionately share ideas and grow together made it all worthwhile."
KWthon 2024 was a hackathon organized collaboratively
by Kwangwoon University's IT clubs, designed as a platform to develop creative
and practical projects. Meanwhile, the event was supported by a development
fund from KakaoPay's "IT Education Support for Bridging the Digital
Education Gap" initiative.
