the Institute of Semiconductor Engineers
Professor Shin
Hyun-chul (School of Semiconductor System Engineering) of our university was
elected as the 8th President of the Institute of Semiconductor Engineers at its
General Assembly held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Grand
InterContinental Parnas Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.
Professor Shin
earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in engineering from
KAIST. He has served as a postdoctoral researcher at UCLA, a researcher at the
Daimler-Benz Research Institute in Germany, a researcher in the System LSI Division
at Samsung Electronics, and a semiconductor design researcher at Qualcomm in
the United States. Since 2003, he has been a professor at our university.
Professor Shin
has served as a technical committee member for renowned international
semiconductor design conferences such as IEEE ISSCC, A-SSCC, and the VLSI
Symposium. He has also held positions as the Conference Chair and Program Chair
of the International SoC Design Conference (ISOCC). In 2010, he was selected as
a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
and is currently serving as the Dean of the College of Electronics and
Information Engineering. The new president will serve a one-year term beginning
the first of the following month.
Additionally,
the Institute of Semiconductor Engineers has elected Park Yong-in, President of
Samsung Electronics (Head of the System LSI Division), as Senior Vice
President, and Professors Kim Kyung-gi of Daegu University and Kim Jong-sun of
Hongik University as Vice Presidents. Professor Shin stated that, together with
the newly appointed executive team, he will do his utmost to ensure that the
Institute of Semiconductor Engineers contributes to the advancement of South
Korea's semiconductor industry and the promotion of academic research.
