The Division of International Trade was newly established in 2008 by combining the Department of International Trade, Department of Chinese Studies and Department of Japanese Studies. It consists of two majors, Korea-China Trade Major and Korea-Japan Trade Major.
Course Descriptions
The Future of Northeast Asian Community
This lecture deals with various important economic and political issues , such as economic integration, intra-regional trade, territorial dispute, regarding Northeast Asian countries (Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Mongolia). Furthermore, by taking this lecture, students have chances to discuss how the countries cooperate and build up the better relationship.
Microeconomics
This course is focused on theories on consumption and production, market structure, efficiency of resource distribution and general equilibrium.
Macroeconomics
This course provides various topics about macroeconomic theories and phenomena. Determination and fluctuation of national income including consumption, investment and government expenditure, macroeconomic policies against inflation, deflation and unemployment will be studied in the view points of various macroeconomic schools. Building the ability to forecast through processing and analysing actual data is an integral part of this course.
International Trade Practice
The purpose of this class is giving an analytical framework that can be used to study international trade. The theory of international trade is also used to study the effects of trade restrictions which are common in the world trade on the different countries of the world.
Business English
This course aims to provide practical business reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English for the students' successful interaction in business situations. Students will develop skills of reading and writing various business documents in English as well as improve their speaking and listening abilities in business situations.
Chinese Listening Practice
This lecture, taught by Chinese instructors, utilizes audio-visual materials to improve students’ listening ability with the aim that students become able to have an everyday conversation in Chinese. During the first 8 weeks, by watching Chinese drama and movies, students raise their listening ability and, during the next 4 weeks, by using weather forecast and brief news, students get accustomed to frequently used terms and finally acquire these terms. During the last 3 weeks, students practice everyday conversation in a way that they communicate their thoughts to each other in Chinese.
Intermediate Japanese Practice
Using various reading materials in Japanese, such as everyday conversations, essays, and movie scripts, this lecture is intended to practically improve students’ listening and speaking abilities. During the class, students get to learn useful expressions and how to use these expressions and vocabulary by repetition.
Understanding of International Economics
This course provides students with understanding of current issues of international economics such as trade, international finance, and international economic cooperation.
Mathematics for Economics
A study of mathematical techniques useful in economic analysis, decision making, and mathematical formulation of economic theory.
English for International Meeting
This course aims to develop students' skills of leading seminar, conference, and international meeting in English. It also helps students to develop abilities to discuss and present various topics effectively in international meeting. Emphasis will be laid on the students' developing the problem-solving skills through creative and logical way of thinking in English.
Business Writing in Chinese
Provided by Chinese instructors, this lecture consists of two parts. In the first half of the lecture, students engage in learning economic terminologies and basic concepts of economics through reading news articles about business and economics. The second half of the lecture focuses on improving students’ writing skills (e.g., personal statement, resume, business contracts, etc).
Advanced Japanese Practice
This lecture is intended to promote students’ Japanese verbal abilities to express their thoughts and opinions. During the class, students have opportunities to read a variety of excellent sources such as short stories, essays, novels, newspaper articles and so on. After reading, students are motivated to communicate their thoughts and opinions on the materials. Through this practice, they are able to effectively raise their Japanese verbal abilities.
Business English for International Trade
This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop both spoken and written English skills for business purpose. Students will build practical language skills they will need to communicate effectively in English.
Global e-Business
In this borderless competitive environment, e-Business is regarded as mandatory. Students will study the characteristics, components, types, technologies, strategies, legal issues, success stories, and business planning of global e-Business.
Statistics in Life
Ability to Understand the meaning behind many statistical information provided by various media, and further to produce them in a well organized format is crucial quality of modern businessmen as well as for the academicians. This course concentrates on theoretical basis and practical applications of the key elements in statistics: statistical distributions, estimation, hypothesis test.
Econometrics
Building the ability to eexplain and to forecast socio-economic variables thorugh learning of quantitative analysis tools is the aim of this course. This course will focus on various regression analysis models.
Logistics in Northeast Asia
The aim of this course is to familiar students with current logistics concepts and with the logistics practice of businesses in competitive environment of Northeast Asian market; the goal is also to gain the ability to use logistics effectively in an enterprise management.
Business Negotiation
This course is to provide the theoretical understanding and practical skills on business negotiation, including the definitions and characteristics, five negotiation components, negotiation theories and models, negotiation strategies and tactics, cross-cultural perspectives, and case studies in commercial transactions, joint ventures, technology transfer, trade agreement, etc.

This course covers Japan's economic development, structure and performance from the WWⅡ to the present, focusing primarily on the post-bubble period. We will discuss various aspects of the Japansese economy, including business organizations and relationships, labor markets, households, and international trade, to see in what ways Japan's economy is similiar or dissimiliar to other industrialized economies.Marketing Research

International Commerce between Korea and Japan
The objective of this course is to provide an understanding contemporary Korea-Japan economic exchanges and its relationships between public policy and economic theory in the context of a globalized world economy. The students is expected to have developed an undestanding and appreciation of Korea-Japan trade policies from the protectionism to IMF, WTO, ASEAN+3, RCEP, TPP and the current debate on future international trade agreements.

Theory of Balance of Payments
This course provides various contents of open economy macroeconomics. The topics such as the concept, measurement and interpretation of balance of payments, the relation of BOP with other macroeconomic activities, determination of exchange rate and the economic effects of its change, open economy macroeconomic policies, international monetary systems and institutions, etc. will be studied in detail.

This course is designed for senior students with basic knowledge of international trade and IT (EDI, Internet). They will learn how to do business more efficiently and economically by the use of trade simulation software in the computer lab.

Field Studies on Northeast Asian Commerce
This course provides an overview of economic development in East Asia(ASEAN+3). The complex interplay of public policy, global competition, and domestic economic relationships in Korea, China, and Japan will serve as the core subject matter of the course, though patterns of economic development in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam and Myanmar will also be discussed. Special attention is given to conditions under which regional economies have successfully blended elements of importing-substituting industrialization with export-oriented growth.
History of Silkroad Trade
With the history of the Silk Road in the Urasian Continent, this course will study the various trades through the road, namely the Steppe Road, Oasis Road and Ocean Road.
WTO and World Trade Practice
Understanding the working and keystone principle of WTO is the main subject of this course. Simulated negotiation and mock dispute settlement case panels will be utilized to that end.

Instead of lawsuits, alternative dispute resolutions(ADRs) are popular to solve the various disputes in international business. Students will learn the characteristics, procedures, and legal issues of international arbitration and discuss the case studies.
